In the west of Austria, in the heart of the Alps, there is a spa resort called Aqua Dome. The construction was completed in 2004, and since then more than 350 thousand visitors choose it for recreation every year.
The complex is quite unique even for this area. Today it is the main resort of the Alps, as in the summer it can offer emerald greenery and the services of a thermal complex surrounded by majestic mountains. And in winter, the local snow-covered panorama generally turns into a fairy tale, because the temperature in the thermal springs at this time is up to +25 degrees! By the way, the water is raised here from a depth of 1865 meters.
The spa resort includes a hotel with viewing platforms, shops, huge open-air hot-water pools, Turkish hammam, Finnish sauna and much more. There is a large parking lot underground, the creation of a lawn on the roof of which was one of the most important stages of construction. And since the conditions in the mountains are far from ideal, the project was implemented by a branch of the German company "ZinCo" - the world leader in roof gardening.
Creation of a roof lawn using German technology
The man-made landscape has combined the disparate details into a single whole. The total area of greening of the roof of the parking was 9,700 sq. m. The mountainous climate is a fairly short summer with little rainfall. Therefore, a substrate of the highest quality with a special formula was required, capable of providing adequate nutrition for plants. And systems developer ZinCo provided it.
To pay tribute to the beauty of the surrounding nature, the resort was rebuilt exclusively from local materials - natural wood and stone. The professional creation of a lawn on the roof, as well as the planting of shrubs that hide various technological equipment, required a careful design of the drainage system. In some areas, the builders used different types of drainage and storage elements - with different indicators of drainage and moisture accumulation. As a result, they even planted full-fledged trees on this roof, and they still feel great.
