The Carmen Würth Forum is the brainchild of billionaire Reinhold Würth, head of the Würth Group, a manufacturer of fasteners, tools and more. The first phase of the project, which includes a multifunctional event space for 3,500 people and a chamber music concert hall for 600 spectators, has now been completed near his company campus in Künzelsau. In the second stage of construction - a museum for the art collection of the Würth family and the capacity to use the complex as a conference center.
The location of the Forum, named after Reinhold's wife, on the outskirts of the city, among the fields, determined its low height: both halls are inscribed into a hill, partially underground. The courtyards leading to them are bounded by concrete retaining walls, whose layered structure recalls the typical sedimentary rocks of the area. The larger, southern courtyard leading to the main entrance can host outdoor concerts for an audience of 10,000.
The building itself is quite neo-modern, with glazing and metal facades. Red, which is widely used in the lobby and in both rooms, is the trademark of the Würth Group. The concert hall is completely sheathed from the inside with chestnut wood.
