Chiangmai Life Architects specialize in bamboo and adobe constructions, and they also carry out their projects through Chiangmai Life Construction. Panyaden International School in Chiang Mai needed just such professionals, because it claims the title of "green", and these two materials were used in the construction of its already existing buildings.
The 300-student gym (area 782 m2, budget - $ 300,000) resembles a lotus shape - a reference to the flora of Thailand and a symbol of Buddhist values at Panyaden School. The building is suitable for futsal, basketball, volleyball and badminton matches. There is also a scene that can be automatically removed; its backdrop is a storage wall for props and sports equipment. On the long sides of the hall are balconies for spectators.
The building has natural ventilation and LED lamps. But the main thing that provides it with a zero "carbon footprint" is the use of bamboo as a building material. It is processed with boric acid sodium salt only, without the use of toxic chemicals.
The structure, open to the interior, takes into account strong winds, earthquakes, etc., typical for the region. It is based on bamboo trusses with a span of more than 17 meters, and they do not contain any steel fasteners. The service life of the gym is at least 50 years.
