The MahaNakhon tower, designed by the Buro Ole Scheeren Group, represented by the HLS workshop at a height of 314 m (77 floors), became the tallest not only in Bangkok, but throughout Thailand. Its floors are spread over 200 apartments, serviced by the Ritz-Carlton, and the 150-room Bangkok Edition boutique hotel, a joint venture between Marriot International and Ian Schroeger. In addition, the skyscraper has a two-story restaurant upstairs and a rooftop Sky Bar with views of the city and the Chao Phraya River, as well as shops, cafes and entertainment facilities on the ground floors.
The total area of the complex (150,000 m2) also includes a green plaza and "Cube" - a seven-storey building with restaurants, cafes and a 24-hour market, replacing the traditional podium for MahaNakhon. The architects abandoned the usual scheme in order to more closely connect their building with the city. Among other things, a courtyard / atrium has been created between the tower and the "Cube", surrounded on both sides by open and glazed terraces. This atrium and plaza creates important multi-functional public spaces in Bangkok's Central Business District, where they are in short supply.
The tower itself is wrapped in a three-dimensional pixelated "tape". It consists of protruding glass "cubes" with open and closed spaces, which is very convenient for tropical climates. Spectacular panoramas emerge from these “pixels”. At the same time, the flats facing the smooth part of the façade have double-height communal rooms with full-height windows that fold inward and upward, transforming the interior into an open terrace.
