It will be built on the banks of the canal, next to 18 other pavilions of architects from around the world. The Biennale Park is part of a cultural "neighborhood" or "quarter" project that will occupy a significant portion of Saadiyat Island in the Abu Dhabi harbor. The Saadiyat development is one of the most ambitious projects of the past few years, involving the construction of four large cultural institutions, including the Louvre and Guggenheim branches, as well as a large educational complex. It is not yet clear if the current economic situation will affect this plan, but work on the projects included in it continues.
The appearance of the pavilion "Studio Pei-Zhu" is sustained in the spirit of "aviation aesthetics": the building resembles the aircraft of the future; it faces the main facade to Abu Dhabi, while hanging over the ground like a bridge, from the side of the canal. A square will be arranged in its shadow; the roof of the building will also be used as a public space.
The interior space of the pavilion, devoid of supports, can be adapted for almost any exhibition; this is facilitated by the minimum glazing area, which will also allow to lower the temperature in the interior, blocking access to the sun's rays.
