The FIFA World Cup, which first came to Russia in 2018, launched a process of active construction of sports facilities throughout the country. For 8 years since Russia's election as the host of the 2018 World Cup, 12 stadiums have been built and reconstructed on its territory in accordance with all FIFA requirements.

A feature of such structures is the mobility and lightness of the structures. Curtain facades are simply irreplaceable here. Yukon Engineering, one of the leading manufacturers of IAF systems, took part in the construction of three stadiums for the World Cup: Yekaterinburg Arena, Otkrytie Arena in Moscow and Mordovia Arena in Saransk.

One of the most striking projects of this championship was the Mordovia Arena stadium by architect Tim Huppé. The appearance of the stadium, which looks like an orange ball, resembles the sun. The project is based on a drawing of a solar sign depicted on the flag of the republic, the rays of which are directed in four directions in the direction of the main streets of the capital of Mordovia. The associative effect is enhanced by the introduction of translucent metal perforated panels, which made it possible to organically fit the building into the environment.

The stadium's façade, consisting of deaf and perforated metal cassettes and raised above the basement floors, smoothly passes into a canopy above the spectator stands, which creates a feeling of lightness, floating above the ground. The inclined curved walls of the building serve as a windbreak. The metal cassettes are fixed to the metal frame using the aluminum subsystem of the U-kon ATS-102i hinged ventilated facade.

The system used in the project perceives wind, ice and snow loads. In the upper part of the facade, the subsystem also acts as a drainage system.

To enhance the feeling of airiness and transparency of the walls, the subsystem covered spans up to 6.2 m. This effect was achieved with the help of the developments of Yukon Engineering, which made it possible to increase the vertical pitch between the supporting brackets. The standard spacing between the brackets is determined by a static calculation and depends on the parameters of the cladding used: the thickness of the material and the width of the cassettes used. As part of the project, reinforced guides with a developed section with a high profile height and increased wall thickness were specially launched into production. All static calculations within the framework of the project were performed in accordance with the instructions of TsNIIPSK im. Melnikov.
