The Department of Soviet and Contemporary Foreign Architecture of the Moscow Architectural Institute held the competition "Drawing of Modern Architecture" in February 2019. Participants were required to depict a modern object in any graphic technique: a completed building or a design concept. Students of all courses of the day and evening departments of Moscow Architectural Institute participated, including undergraduates. They were joined by the students of the RGSAI. About thirty of the best works were then shown at an exhibition at the Architectural Institute.
Vera Kolgashkina, curator of the competition:
“The image of modern architecture is certainly a topical topic. Drawing of modern objects is closely related to the design process - it allows students to feel more deeply the spatial scenario of modern buildings, and then apply the experience gained in the process of creating their own projects. However, the image of modern architecture requires different approaches than the drawing of historical buildings with rich detail and complex plastic facades. A different aesthetics of modern buildings requires a search for the aesthetics of the graphic image. Therefore, the competition "Drawing of Modern Architecture" became a kind of discussion platform, where the participants proposed techniques for the graphic presentation of modern objects. I am glad that the topic aroused interest, and we received very diverse and diverse works that reveal the creative potential of students, their readiness to search and develop."
