The Jupiter Concert Hall is located in the very center of Nizhny Novgorod - on Oktyabrskaya Square, two blocks from the Kremlin. The building was built according to a standard design in 1972 on the site of the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara. At first it was the House of Political Education, in the 90s it was the main concert venue of the city, then the building was transferred to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and in 2014 - to a private investor. Before the reconstruction "Jupiter" stood empty and abandoned for a long time.
The architects from the Stanislav Gorshunov GORA bureau solved two problems: to preserve and emphasize the aesthetics of brutalism, and to approximately double the capacity.
Externally, the building has practically not changed, only it has become neater. The facades were cleared of late layers, the entire window system was replaced, and the historic vestibule was restored. They decided to keep the bas-relief "Marx-Engels-Lenin" as an element characteristic of their time, only now it is flanked by two media screens.
Inside, the transformations are more significant. A balcony appeared in the main hall, on the third floor - a universal area for conferences, master classes and private events, halls and corridors were adapted for exhibitions. Thus, technically, the building turned into a multifunctional, the capacity increased to 1.5 thousand people, which made Jupiter one of the largest specialized sites in the city.

The interiors of the building work more on the indicator of "attendance" - this is a simple but effective variation on the theme of Soviet aesthetics, which makes the site attractive not only for spectators, but also for organizers of events, as well as casual visitors who have entered a restaurant for a lecture or presentation. It should be noted that the bureau's interiors are a success - in the portfolio they are presented on a par with architecture, many of them have been awarded prizes.
Each floor has its own peculiarity. The first is a white space, into which a wooden wardrobe box is built. Attention is drawn to the coffered ceiling, which has significantly increased the height and space in general, since previously the structural beams were located at the lower level of the "cells". Two restaurants and a cafe have already opened in the premises on either side of the lobby.

The third floor is more intimate, here the main material is wood. Also, architects play with light, collide right angles with circles, preserve partitions made of glass blocks. The spaces of all floors are united by two monumental staircases that are clearly visible from the street.

The concert hall itself was faced with panels that were developed for this facility together with acoustic specialists. First, they were printed on a 3D printer, and then a matrix was made in which the panels were molded. The black color helps the audience to fully concentrate on the stage, while the cellular structure of the material and contrasting chiaroscuro creates the effect of "soft" walls and creates the image of a recording studio.

In the future, according to the project, the bureau will also beautify the area in front of the concert hall: the historic fountain will be restored, and small recreation areas will appear.
The reconstruction project received a gold diploma from the Archnovation 2019 competition.
