Hotel Holiday Inn Express Baumanskaya
The hotel with 128 rooms near the third transport ring was designed by the UNK project bureau. The place, despite the remoteness from the center, is rather colorful: the hotel screens out from the highway a scattering of houses and outbuildings of different years of construction, and along the red line it adjoins the building of the Art Nouveau drama theater and a massive apartment building of the late 1990s. The new volume brings the street to a geometric order.
The laconic form of the hotel is compensated by the complex design of the facade. The architects use three monochrome shades of EQUITONE [tectiva] panels: this series is characterized by a pronounced texture of fiber cement and a surface reminiscent of linen. Under different weather conditions and lighting, the material changes slightly, playing in semitones. The colors of the façade are added by the smooth EQUITONE [pictura] panel in the shade PG742.
The architects have complicated the basic pattern of weaving: the "fibers" of the walls and interfloor ceilings gradually become wider, respectively, the windows decrease. The almost continuous glazing of the first floors is reduced to small square windows, lightness turns into massiveness, the palette is gaining strength.
The three-part facade reflects the internal functions: the first two floors are occupied by public spaces, the next three are standard rooms, the last five are superior rooms.
The maximum size of EQUITONE panels is 1250x3100 mm, but they are easily cut to the required size, which is what UNK project used when designing a complex pattern.
EQUITONE panels meet not only the high requirements of architects, but also the standards of hotels. Holiday Inn cares about the image of its business, trying to reduce the environmental impact, which EQUITONE panels also comply with - they are made entirely of natural materials and can be recycled.

Apart-hotel House No. 128
New apartments designed by the Austrian bureau ATP architekten ingenieure have grown a couple of steps from the Konkovo metro station. The plan is a slightly wider rectangle than the Holiday Inn Express, the urban planning task is also similar: the building removes visual noise from the shopping pavilions opposite the square and continues the logic of a residential neighborhood of the 1970s.
The apartment complex is much higher than the hotel - 19 floors versus 10, here the architects solved another problem - to make the facade light and avoid monotony. With which they cope, using a sense of color and proportion.
The orthogonal grid of the facade is inscribed in two large white blocks, which are separated by a dark gray "pillar" of the staircase and elevator node. Along the edges of the building there are rhythmic rows of non-glazed balconies of a contrasting gray color, which, like the right clothes, hide the extra "centimeters" of the building.
Cladding materials with different textures add an additional “micro-level” to large façade divisions: the wide planes of the EQUITONE [tectiva] and EQUITONE [natura] panels are combined with clinker bricks, “wooden” porcelain stoneware slats and metal grilles for installing air conditioners. The uniform gamut of black and white photography emphasizes rhythms, geometric shadows of balconies give additional depth.
