By creating a unified ensemble, the architects sought to reflect the character and identity of each museum. Thus, four buildings of federal museums will have simple volumes, but facades with different design textures. Fiber-concrete panels and motifs of classic works of the Russian avant-garde of the first half of the 20th century were selected for the Rosiso exhibition center. The facades of the storehouse of the State Historical Museum are decorated with stone with a pronounced layered structure - this style is dictated by the theme of historical layers. The storage facility of the Tretyakov Gallery will be made in the same style as its main building - it was proposed to use bricks with decorative masonry for decorating the walls. Finally, for the facade of the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. selected perforated finish with metal cassettes.
The storage facility for 23 Moscow museums will be designed as terraces clad with fiber cement panels and tape glazing.
An area of 4.74 hectares has been allocated for the construction of the complex in the settlement of Sosenskoye, near the Kaluzhskoye highway, within walking distance of the Olkhovskaya and Kommunarka metro stations. It is planned to start implementation in 2020, and to complete it by 2023.
The jury of the competition was attended by: Sergey Kuznetsov, Chief Architect of Moscow, Vladimir Zhidkin, Head of the Department for Development of New Territories of Moscow, Vladimir Plotkin, Head of TPO "Reserve", representatives of the Department of Culture of Moscow and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
“We held a targeted research competition among young teams, deciding with colleagues from the New Territories Development Department to give a chance to some small office to prove itself. The experience with competitions at the metro station has shown that young people are doing quite well for themselves, doing cool fresh things, which are then well promoted in public space, people like them and really benefit the city. In the end, it happened - the guys from IQ did a great job, made a non-trivial project of the storage facility, and there is every reason to believe that we will get a very good object as a result,”commented Sergey Kuznetsov on the results of the competition.
