The Matrex business center in Skolkovo, which is the hallmark of the innovation center, was awarded the prestigious Architizer A + architectural award. The building's unique structure is protected by AkzoNobel's Interpon D2525 Eco Black Onyx powder coatings. The specialty of this line of heat-reflecting coatings is that they can compensate for the effects of hot climates and urban heat radiation problems by reflecting the sun's rays from the facade of a building.

“We are delighted to be part of this award-winning project,” comments Daniela Vlad, Head of AkzoNobel Powder Coatings Business. “We are proud to be able to meet the growing demand for coatings that are designed with environmental requirements and regulations in mind. In this way, we not only satisfy the needs of our customers, but also benefit them, society and the environment. A key feature of the Interpon D2525 Eco is its ability to protect buildings from overheating, which can make an important contribution to combating the so-called “urban heat island” effect.

Jean Paul Munen, Head of Architectural Segment for AkzoNobel Powder Coatings, adds: “Moscow, like most major cities, heats up faster than the suburbs, and the use of products like the Interpon D2525 Eco can make a big difference. For example, urban temperatures can rise as high as 2 ° C due to the urban heat island effect. It may seem like a small figure, but it's already enough to cause dehydration or heatstroke in the city's residents."

Jean Paul explains that in a controlled test, it was demonstrated that, thanks to our heat-reflective pigments, the roof temperature was 7 ° C colder than if non-reflective coatings were used. Meanwhile, the temperature inside the building was 3 ° C lower, which helped to reduce the generation of electricity needed to run fans and air conditioners.

The multifunctional building "Matryoshka" was designed by the Russian architect Boris Bernasconi. The monolithic pyramidal structure is covered with glass. It hides a much softer, curved interior that can only be seen at night when the building is well lit from the inside. Matryoshka joins the list of the world's most iconic green buildings that have taken full advantage of AkzoNobel's wide range of powder coatings.
