Star of the East on the banks of the Sunzha River
The city of Grozny has been actively developing for the last ten years. During this time, modern residential areas, mosques, museums, sports facilities have grown. Many of them claim European and Russian records in size. The tourist infrastructure of Grozny is also gradually growing. However, the Grozny Mall shopping and entertainment center is the first unparalleled project in the Chechen Republic that will combine innovative architectural solutions and multifunctional infrastructure.
The crystal-shaped building will be practically transparent. Only two materials are used in its decoration: metal and glass. The octagonal roof is made in the form of multifaceted metal surfaces in silver and gold, reminiscent of crystals. According to the architects, the roof should become the “fifth facade” of the building, since it is clearly visible both from the river bank and from the windows of the nearby Grozny-City high-rises, and from the height of the future Akhmat Tower skyscraper.
From a bird's eye view, only the original design of the architects will be visible, and nothing superfluous - the octagonal structure of the roof, emphasized by the lines of skates, overlapping slopes and structures of decorative pylons. The laconic design of the roof, however, hides the complexity of its design solutions.
The design took into account the global experience of the Riverclack system and used a number of innovative technical solutions that helped to ensure the absolute watertightness of the system, the durability of the roof, its resistance to wind and snow loads, and many other positive characteristics.
Geometric roof pattern
The architects conceived a star-shaped roof with numerous beams and edges. The problem posed by them was solved by a local change in the slopes of the roof slope with overlaps on the mating sections. This technical solution helped to avoid the increase in the height of the substructure to critical values.
The slope overlaps, as well as the skates, were installed using Riverclack structural parts to ensure the assemblies are watertight and efficiently installed. In addition, Riverclack aluminum roof panel overlaps allowed the complex architectural design of seam roofing to be realized in two different colors on the same roof plane.
The lines of skates, overlapping slopes, decorative pylons additionally emphasize the versatility of the roof.
Functional roof details
The city of Grozny is located in a potentially seismically hazardous area, therefore, special attention in the project was paid to the organization of seismic expansion joints, taking into account the specified displacements up to 450 mm. In the seismic seismic joints, a frame made of LSTC and a hinged cover were used to ensure the required movement in the event of an earthquake. The seam cover is covered with Riverclack panels, in some cases with aluminum sheet in the color of the respective roof area. This solution ensured the unit's watertightness and maximally smoothed out the contrast created by the seismic seismic joints against the background of the main roof pattern.
Among other things, the designers of the Riverclack system were tasked with ensuring the smooth drainage of rainwater from the entire roof surface. The Riverclack seam lock, due to its nature and the absence of through holes, does not allow water to enter the roof space, even when completely submerged. However, in accordance with the current building regulations, it was decided to integrate the internal gutters and connect them to the main gutters located around the perimeter of the buildings.
The final touch in the roof design for the Grozny Mall shopping and entertainment center is the installation of decorative pylons on top of the Riverclack roof covering. A simple solution to this super complex problem was the use of the RA208 caliper as a base for the pylons. A distinctive feature of the support is the possibility of its installation without through perforation of roofing pictures, they do not require preliminary installation of contrasting clips for the seam and do not form a fixation point for the seam panel, allowing free thermal expansion of the picture material, and most importantly, they preserve the properties and characteristics of the roofing unchanged. The entire structure has been calculated and tested to withstand high wind and snow loads and is fully consistent with the original concept of the architects.
The Grozny Mall shopping and entertainment center will open its doors this year. The work is proceeding according to the schedule. The opening ceremony is scheduled for October 5th.
