The Zodchestvo festival, curated this year by the editor-in-chief of the architectural publishing house TATLIN Eduard Kubensky, will be held under the theme "Eternity". The festival is expected to be more - perhaps more than ever - conceptual this time around. The idea of the prevalence of meanings and subtexts over the visual component is intended to be supported by several special projects at once. Let's talk a little about each of them.

Crazy Ships

The exhibitors will try to reveal the theme of eternity and illustrate the curator's manifesto with the help of unusual installations based on the book of ideas "Crazy Ships" by architect Luis Kahn. Every detail is symbolic here. So is the choice of materials. One of the ships, for example, will be built from plastic forks, which will effectively grant it eternal life.

Tower and Labyrinth is the name of a personal blog that has been run since 2008 by architect and critic Alexander Rappaport. MARSH students Olga Vakhrameeva, Arina Chervyakova, Evgeniya Udalova, Sofya Dedyulya, Anastasia Krasikova, Sofya Romanovskaya

collected the texts of all 5,000 posts in one tape about 7.5 kilometers long and will send it to print right during the festival. Everyone will be able to take a piece for themselves.

Space miraculous

The exhibition will present ideas for the "development" of significant Moscow territories, which could be useful in the event of demolition of buildings or erasure of the urban environment. The main design method is the so-called "zero-conservation", the return of space to the state before the emergence of architectural or similar activities in the selected area. Dmitry Mikheikin's project was already exhibited in Moscow in 2008, and now the author has made adjustments to it taking into account today's realities.

This is a daily performance with the participation of architecture students. The "protesters" will hold in their hands signs with worthy of attention and understanding statements of prominent Russian architects of different times.

The project is dedicated to the fate of Russian recreation centers, the overwhelming majority of which today need reconstruction, most often with a change in function. The exposition will combine the history of the creation and development of the system of houses of culture in our country with modern world experience in the revival of such objects.

Illusion and transformation

This special project is planned as part of the Best Interior Festival (BIF), which this time will be held on the same site as Zodchestvo. The project participants are the Moscow architectural bureaus Citizenstudio, MAD ARCHITECTS and Megabudka. The stand, which will be placed at the disposal of the architects, will be transformed by each bureau in accordance with the chosen concept - from pop art of the 70s to the black and white aesthetic of the avant-garde. The point is to demonstrate the possibilities of using different color schemes to create a volumetric-spatial solution of an interior, as well as the influence of color on psychological perception.

In addition to the above, visitors will find a rich business program that will cover the entire range of topics relevant to the professional community: from the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic on the design and construction sector to fundamental urban planning issues. And, of course, several expositions at once will be organized within the framework of the festival's competitive program.
