RHEINZINK-CLASSIC material - natural zinc alloy, on the surface of which a permanent patina of zinc carbonate forms during its entire service life. Initially, the zinc surface reacts with oxygen from the air to form zinc oxide. Further, when water hits the surface (rain, moisture), zinc hydroxide is formed, which, under the influence of carbon dioxide in the air, turns into a dense, durable and waterproof layer of alkaline zinc carbonate (patina). This protective layer is responsible for the high corrosion resistance of zinc. This process is not uniform everywhere. First, islets of gray color are formed in the form of drops, which, as the formation of the protective layer progresses, grow together and turn into a uniform gray-blue patina.

This process is absolutely typical for a conventional rolled surface. It can last from months to several years, depending on the intensity of exposure to moisture, the location of the building, as well as the slope of the surfaces of the material. This property of a material is often used by architects as a design tool to highlight the natural aging of a building.

An alternative to conventional rolled material are pre-coated surfaces RHEINZINK-prePATINA blaugrau and schiefergrau … It is the only product on the market with a natural surface (industrial patina). They are not painted or varnished. The origin of the color effect is due to the composition of the metal alloy. The dark gray RHEINZINK-prePATINA material has a higher copper content than the blue-gray RHEINZINK prePATINA, which, with a unique etching process, creates a darker color. Thus, both shades of prePATINA surfaces come from a natural base material and already at the factory obtain a surface very close to the shade of further patina formation on the object. In the process of natural patina, all possible damages (for example, scratches during installation) are covered with patina.

RHEINZINK-prePATINA material can be supplied on request with a special transparent top prePATINA TOP and prePATINA proROOFING bottom. These coatings help to avoid the formation of typical efflorescence on the surface of the material in coastal climates, are additional protection against negative, physical effects of construction, as well as TOP and proROOFING organic coatings protect the prePATINA surface from the formation of zinc hydroxide on top and on the back in case of accidental moisture ingress during storage and transportation.

Skygrey surfaces and basalte product line GRANUM complement the existing RHEINZINK product range. A noble matte appearance is achieved by phosphating the surface of the material. The phosphate coating is durable, weather-resistant, durable and does not hide the structure of the material itself. The light or dark shade of the phosphated surface is determined by appropriate chemical treatment. Thus, scratches or damage to the surface of the GRANUM basalte heal over time only with the typical blue-gray patina and does not darken.

Natural patina formation in this product line begins only after the gradual wear of the phosphate layer. Through a natural chemical reaction, the patina slowly "grows" and over time a mixed layer of patina and phosphate forms on the surface. therefore dark surface RHEINZINK GRANUM basalte may become lighter. RHEINZINK-GRANUM material can be supplied on request with a special transparent coating on top of the GRANUM TOP and bottom of the GRANUM proROOFING.

RHEINZINK-PRISMO Is the natural color-coated RHEINZINK product line. The base material is the phosphated surface of GRANUM skygrey, on which a translucent PVDF varnish is applied. This provides a color effect that at the same time leaves the zinc structure visible. The seven standard PRISMO colors provide a wide variety of design options. At the same time, the colored pigmented surface provides protection against various climatic and external influences. Penetrating scratches, however, are not patinated with color, but with the usual zinc gray-blue color. The coating itself does not form a patina, but it can visually change and become lighter under the influence of the environment.
