The construction of a complex of four buildings - the Bolshoi Theater for 1200 spectators, a 500-seat multifunctional hall, a science center-museum and an art museum - began on January 1, 2020, due to the pandemic, work was suspended until last spring, but since then they have made a lot of progress. This is a construction with a total area of almost 100,000 m2, covered with a symmetrical canopy. It integrates the different enclosures around a central plaza and protects them from the sun with a perforated aluminum panel cover. The size of the holes in them varies depending on the program of the building below and its position relative to the cardinal points.

The roof as a whole is conceived as a prefabricated modular system with self-supporting parts; the source of inspiration was the wedge in which migratory birds wintering on the coast of the South China Sea line up in the sky - a frequent sight for this city.

The center will be located on an artificial lake in the Western Ecological New City area, close to the airport and Macau-Macau: Zhuhai is located west of this former Portuguese outpost, across the Xijiang River, which is part of the Pearl River Delta.

The lake in this case is not a fad, but a necessity in the conditions of a swampy seaside area and a humid subtropical climate: it, like the "permeable" landscape design of the complex, is included in the "sponge city" plan, developed to manage 70% of rainwater in Zhuhai, including - its cleaning with the help of local flora and fauna.
