It is located on the left bank of the Loire, whose valley has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. This fact, as well as the outdated design of the old station that existed on this site since 1972 and discharged insufficiently purified water directly into the river, prompted the city authorities to build a new structure - technically more advanced and less visible.
The roof of the new station will be a light metal structure, on top of which 20 cm of soil will be poured: meadow flowers will be planted there. These ceilings are not monolithic, but consist of separate "ribbons", bending, repeating the forms of the terrain - even restoring the forms that were lost during the construction of the first station. Thus, the building should fit into the surrounding landscape as much as possible and even become part of the public space on the river bank. Nearby is the popular racetrack and the Bridge of Europe, one of the key entrances to the city, so this "tact" was highly desirable.
Construction is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2012.
