The New York-based architect and theorist worked with Christoph A. Kumpusch to develop an impressive plan for the transformation of the Austrian capital. Considering the original architecture of Vienna as an essential component of its energy system, Woods proposes by means of thoughtful architectural "interventions" to radically change the direction of energy flows in the city.
With the help of abstract drawings, which are superimposed, like a raster grid, on the plan of Vienna, the architect develops urban planning scenarios for the future development of the metropolis.
Woods considers architecture to be one of the forms of energy organization, so he is studying its existing flows and plans to redirect them to those areas that have the greatest potential for change.
As a visual expression of his ideas, Lebbeus Woods uses vectors: "They not only denote flows of energy, they embody them." He uses them to depict not only mechanical, but also cognitive and affective energy in the "Vienna System".
The time of the event is from June 29 to October 16, 2005.
