King Juan Carlos of Spain took part in the opening ceremony of the headquarters of the city water supply administration. The 142-meter structure should resemble a fountain, symbolizing the specialization "Agua de Barcelona", which gave its name to the building.
The outer shell of the building should also remind of water - thousands of its glass panels are painted with enamel paint in 40 different shades and shimmer in the sun like the surface of a reservoir.
The location of the 4,400 windows of the skyscraper was determined by a computer program - a random number generator. This created serious problems for maintaining the static structure of the building envelope, depending on each specific hole, and also increased the cost of design and construction - it was necessary to develop an individual plan for each floor.
The total area of offices in Torre Agbar is 39,000 sq. m, and the cost of the tower is 133 million euros.
