The organizers noted in it a well-thought-out relationship with the surrounding buildings, the laconicism of a geometrically complex shape and ingenious technological innovations in the field of temperature control inside the building (windows in the concrete facade were pierced, at first glance, without any system. As a result, it acts not only as a constructive element, but also as a barrier from the summer heat. Outside, on top of the glass curtain wall, another layer is installed - glass blinds, which protect the interior from sunlight and heat, but do not reduce the transparency of the windows). The location of the structural core not in the geometric center of the building made it possible to create large rooms there without internal partitions and supports. Torre Agbar's multi-colored shell makes it stand out in the urban landscape at any time of the day.
Four honorable mentions have been awarded to residential high-rise buildings. These are the "Pivoting Torso" by Santiago Calatrava in Sweden (for the exquisite sculptural form), the Vineberg Hochhouse in Vienna by the Delugan Meissl workshop (for high quality with a low budget), the Montevideo residential complex in Rotterdam by the Mecano bureau (for the diversity interior space solutions within one building) and the Jian Wai SOHO complex in Beijing by the Japanese architectural firm Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop (for an original and productive approach to designing in a small area).
This is the second time that the award has been presented by the authorities of Frankfurt am Main and Deka-Bank to buildings above 100 m, distinguished by innovative design and technical solutions, relatively low cost and consistency with the surroundings.
