The idea to create an exhibition center that would tell about the history of Piaggio scooters, their design, technical innovations, etc., was born in connection with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the company. A new museum with exhibition space of about 5,500 sq. m will be inscribed in one of the plant's shops where Vespa scooters and Ape three-wheeled cargo scooters are produced. Thus, visitors will be able to observe the production process.
Fuksas's project is based on the creation of two overlapping "layers" that appear to be floating. These two parallel planes are interrupted by spherical volumes protruding from them. As part of Piaggio's corporate design, the building will be painted in the signature Vespa red. Steel, fiberglass and polyester resins will be used as building materials.
The construction of the museum, worth 6,000,000 euros, will begin shortly, and the opening is scheduled for 2007.
