Vignoli left his home country for political reasons back in the 1970s, and until very recently, not a single of his projects was implemented there. Now, on the contrary, several of his structures are being built there, and the first of them will be the Edificio Acqua residential complex in the fashionable resort of Punta del Este on the Atlantic Ocean.
The building will be commissioned in April 2008, but the project has already attracted the attention of the architectural community and potential buyers.
The house, reminiscent of the Latin L in terms of steps, descends to the ocean, the resulting terraces formed as a result of such a structural solution are used as an extension of the living space of individual apartments or for arranging swimming pools, which are located on each of the six floors of the new building. All apartments in the complex face the ocean in living and dining rooms, with some of the residential building's 34 apartments boasting sea views from three of four sides. The tenants' bedrooms are facing away from each other, with windows opening onto the park and woodlands surrounding Punta del Este.
Edificio Acqua looks like an ocean liner docked on the Uruguayan coast. Vignoli himself says that in his first project for his native country, he tried to reflect the beauty and strangeness of the nature of this region.
