It is Asia's largest rail terminal and also one of the most modern. With a total area of 940,000 sq. m and with 13 platforms for trains, the building is covered with a roof equal in size to 20 football fields, with glazing of 30,000 sq. m.
The complex combines, in addition to the tracks of ordinary trains, city train lines, a bus station, a subway, as well as a high-speed railway line connecting Beijing with Tianjin. Trains travel along it at a speed of 350 km / h, and the entire journey takes no more than 30 minutes. In the future, the same line will connect the Chinese capital with Shanghai.
The station is a structure of five floors, of which only two are above the ground. The main focus of the architects was on maximizing the use of natural light at all levels of the building, as well as combining separate functional areas of the complex into a single space to facilitate orientation for passengers.
The huge waiting room is designed to accommodate 10,000 people at the same time, and by 2030 the station's passenger traffic should reach 105 million per year.
