The curator of the Russian pavilion, Grigory Revzin, opened the ceremony for the presentation of the architectural project, outlining the program of events taking place at this exhibition site during the Biennale. According to him, the public is shown in the pavilion the most "iconic" and striking buildings that are now at the stage of design and implementation in Russia. The authorship of most of them belongs to foreign architects: the only representatives of our country in this series are Boris Levyant and Boris Stuchebryukov with their Freestyle Park. This project has earned its place in the Russian pavilion by the originality of the solution, which is unique not only for domestic, but also for world architectural practice. One complex, which MT Development plans to build by 2011 to the west of Moscow, will connect a ski slope with several slopes and infrastructure (the so-called “snow zone”), a water park, a natural science museum “Center for Entertaining Science”, shopping and entertainment establishments, hotel and apartments.
This super-versatility set the architects with the difficult task of creating an integral image of the building that at the same time meets the constructive logic of the building. Boris Levyant, presenting the project, emphasized the organic origin of its form, comparing it with a living being; in general, according to him, the originality of the Freestyle Park appearance is closer to a certain cultural institution than to a commercial institution.
The exterior of the building was demonstrated more clearly by the example of its new layout, made especially for the presentation. Despite the fact that the project is still under development and, in particular, the scheme of its color scheme has not yet been determined, the three-dimensional model of the complex makes it possible to imagine the impression that this large-scale structure (as high as a 30-storey building) will make on visitors.
Also at the presentation were the British experts responsible for creating its main "attraction" in Freestyle Park - an indoor ski slope, as well as for the Center for Entertaining Science, which will acquaint the public with the wonders of nature and science similar to the Fano Center Zaha Hadid in Wolfsburg.
