The version of Rem Koolhaas and Ole Scheren was selected by a jury of 135 works by participants from 24 countries.

The new building will contain a large auditorium for 1,500 spectators and two additional ones for 800 seats each. They will be housed in a corrugated glass cube mounted on a rectangular “podium”; all three theater halls will be served by a common system of utility rooms and stage machinery, which will create unlimited possibilities for experimentation, in particular, by using these rooms together and separately. From the lobby, visitors will be able to watch what is happening behind the scenes.

The structure will be raised above the ground on supports to keep the busy food market intact at the site of the future construction.

A new theater center is due to open in 2013; the project budget will amount to about 90 million euros.
