The Manni Group Holding, which includes IZOPAN RUS LLC, and the organizer of the YAC-Young Architects Competitions, have summed up the results of the Manni Design Award for designing a modern railway station based on the principles of sustainable development.

In recent years, Xi'an, one of the oldest cities in the world, has become the high-tech center of China. By 2023, the metropolis will expand by 17 km2 and become a venue for international events. In Xi'an, they do not forget about the traditions of the Great Silk Road, they do everything possible to revive this route: the construction of a new railway station is intended to attract millions of tourists.

“The decision to hold this competition was prompted by the desire to support talented architects who embody innovative solutions in the field of green building,” said the president of the holding. Francesco Manni … "The architectural community enthusiastically responded to the announced competition, projects were received from 75 countries of the world - a symbolic figure for the holding, which turns 75 this year."

The main criteria for evaluating competitive projects were environmental friendliness and the principles of dry construction. According to Enrico Fritzera, CEO of Manni Group, the participants were given the opportunity to implement innovative methods of modular construction and introduce the principles of the circular economy into the practice of the architect.

The special nominations of the Manni Group Design Award were sponsored by companies Rockwool, Renolit, Dow, Tata steel.

The organizers and the expert jury are pleased to present the winners of the competition Xi'an Railway Station:

1st place: Studio Mograph, Volna. Italy

Giovanna de Simone and Mateo Amicarello, studio Mograph, Pescara - winners of the first Manni Group architecture competition. This is a double victory for young architects, who also received a special prize from Rockwool for special attention to the life cycle of the building.

The architectural design is based on the imitation of the Sichuan mountainous terrain: the undulating green roof, stretching over the train tracks and shopping areas of the station, will become a pedestrian zone for passengers. The Green Carpet is made using the GreenROOF flat roof technology based on Isopan sandwich panels. The developed project of the station has a graceful ring shape, which symbolizes the integrity and unity of the metropolis with the whole world.

2nd place: Atelier_62, High Speed Pagoda. Spain

The runner-up project was created by a Spanish team from the Atelier_62 studio, which included Luis Ruiz Andres, Juan Perez Garcia and Rodrigo Mart ines Garcia. They were inspired to create the project by the history of Xi'an: the roof of the building visually resembles a majestic in its simplicity pagoda, and the enclosing structures, like the shields of the soldiers of the terracotta army, protect the building from bad weather. The project is supposed to use Isodeck PVSteel panels (these are also produced in Russia!) - durable sandwich panels with double metal cladding and PVC membrane as waterproofing.

3rd place: DS-WORKS, Chariot. Switzerland

Project Daniel Schalapski and Antonio Scaglionerepresenting the Swiss studio DS-WORKS, also draws on the rich historical and artistic heritage of Xi'an: the famous chariot of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi inspired the creation of the impressive umbrella dome of the railway station. The project uses the principle of dry construction based on Manni Group products.
