“Under the Roof of the House” is a festival that is not just conservative, but deliberately stakes on its own immutability. On numerous ironic reproaches that it is high time to "change something", its organizers always laugh it off: no matter what storms the architectural and construction market goes through, "Under the roof of the house" everything is calm, which attracts a steadily large number of participants to the festival. In the year of his tenth year, however, he tried to radically change his image - he became a part of the Moscow Biennale of Architecture and moved to the Central House of Artists - but just a year later he returned to his native land. And if the unshakable concept and format of the event can be considered effective anti-crisis measures, then by this indicator any other professional award can hardly be compared to the Under the Roof of the House festival.

The only serious innovation that the Under the Roof of a House festival has decided on this year is the renewal of the jury. Irina Korobina, Viktor Litvinov, Viktor Logvinov and Sergei Skuratov, who have long been accustomed to the role of judges, have been joined this year by architects Vladimir Kuzmin and Anton Mosin and the editor-in-chief of Project Russia magazine Alexei Muratov. Together they approached the evaluation of the works submitted for the competition much more rigorously and biased than it was done at the festival before. As a result, the number of “Under the Roof of the House” laureates has noticeably decreased and new faces have appeared among them for the first time in many years. In particular, at the insistence of Vladimir Kuzmin, a special jury diploma “for constructive initiative” was awarded to the “Milk_factory” team for the conceptual project “Just assemble a house”.

The jury almost unanimously awarded the Grand Prix of the festival to the architect Pyotr Kostelov for the Wood Patchwork House project - a three-story wooden mansion on the banks of the Volga. In this project, the architect very elegantly and ingeniously played with the national habit of building and patching country houses from all available materials. The light frame volume is lined with lattice wooden panels ("rags"), which, upon closer examination, turn out to be assembled either from cuttings from shovels, now from a bar, now from slats. These shutter panels not only create a memorable appearance of the house, but also reliably protect it from the eyes of strangers and at the same time do not interfere with the penetration of daylight into the living quarters. All the furniture in the house was also designed by Peter Kostelov, who managed to achieve striking harmony in the design of the exterior and interior.

In the “Completed residential building” nomination, the first place was awarded to Ivan Shalmin for the “Propylaea” project. The name refers to the classics, but these are by no means ancient Greek porticoes and colonnades, but the purest example of modernism, whose artistic techniques are reinterpreted in modern materials and chamber dimensions of a private building. The residential building is made up of three parallelepipeds, cut into each other, and numerous huge windows give it the solemnity prescribed by the genre.

The jury awarded the second place in this nomination to architects Sergei Gikalo and Alexander Kuptsov for the “White steamer” summer kitchen pavilion, which they built in the village of them. Vorovskogo (Moscow Region) for the program "Country Answer". The traditional attribute of the Soviet dacha - a detached kitchen - was interpreted by them as a summer dazzling white stage, with a stove, a mini-kitchen and a comfortable dining room space.

In the nomination "project-idea of a country house" the best was the house in the village of Tishkovo by Alexey Kozyr, which resembles a giant wicker chest with a very unusual spiral staircase hidden inside. The second place was given to “Dom-autonomous” by A. Shchetitina, A. Kochurkin and Y. Bychkova. The curators of the Archstoyanie eco-festival have come up with a house that can exist independently of any central communications. In an effort to develop a design for a structure that will not cause any harm to the environment, the architects began with the materials of the external walls - they are made from completely natural components, have a soft layered structure and can serve not only as enclosing structures, but also as a "lawn" for moss. The third place was awarded to the permanent participant of the festival "Under the Roof of a House" - the architect Totan Kuzembaev for an ingenious project of a pair of country houses for two friendly neighbors called "Belka and Strelka". The volumes of the houses are "recruited" from modular parts that are inserted into each other like construction set elements.

The special prize of the Moskomarkhitektura was awarded to the “guest star” of the festival - architect Mikhail Filippov. "Under the roof of a house" the master presented a project of a mansion on Nikolina Gora, in which he plays on the most classic of all possible themes - the composition of the Colosseum. With the eternal monument, Filippov manages very freely - obliquely cuts off the upper tiers with a glass roof. At the same time, the cut is arranged in such a way that all the living quarters of the house - bedrooms, offices and the kitchen - have a normal flat ceiling, and under the inclined transparent plane there are public areas - the living room and the winter garden. Such a bold volumetric solution gives the house a romantic look of an inhabited park ruin.

The best public interior was the Open Gallery, designed by Natalya Tamruchi on the site of the basement of a former communal apartment in Trubnikovsky Lane. Many tiny rooms, connected by a long corridor, have been transformed into a stylish exhibition space with white brick walls and vaulted ceilings. Vladimir Malashonok (Artradar Architects) won the first place in the Residential Interior nomination for a futuristic design project for an apartment in Zhukovka, painted in an optimistic bright red color.

The jury's firm determination to award only the best projects this year turned out to be a great creative success for the festival. The gallery of laureates "Under the Roof of a House" -2010 "is no longer a get-together of former classmates and not giving out" earrings to all sisters ", but a collection of really strong and interesting works demonstrating the high level of the industry. And it is the latter, in the light of the economic crisis, that seems especially pleasant and important.
