Workshops "Immersion" - an intensive course from the architectural school "Evolution", whose participants from 18 to 27 August worked on projects for the development of the "pilot" section of the embankment of the Sheksna village. The area of the site is 15.2 hectares; in total, it is planned to reconstruct 80 hectares. The improvement of Nikolskaya embankment is carried out within the framework of the project "Russian Shores", which involves the connection of berthing areas throughout Russia and aims to create a tourist, business and social and cultural center in Sheksna. The site, on which the architects worked, will be able to observe the passengers of cruise ships traveling from St. Petersburg to Moscow along the Volga-Baltic waterway.
The workshop participants were faced with the task of working not only on the layout of the embankment, but also to create projects for the first new buildings and to think about the reconstruction of the industrial structures that have survived here. The course program included acquaintance with the territory, excursions, seminars and discussion. Trainees from Moscow, Minsk, Vologda, Samara, Arkhangelsk and Sheksna worked in three teams. At the end of the intensive, they presented their concepts to the administration of the Sheksninsky municipal district, representatives of local business and the public.
For the next summer, it is already planned to continue the development of the Sheksna embankment: the Flood workshops will be organized in the village.

Maelstrom

The radial-beam layout of the site is built on the textbook basis of the golden section. In the center of the composition there is a tower 112.8 m high, which is equal to the height difference between Sheksnaya and St. Petersburg. The tower is a reconstruction of the inactive mixers of a former concrete plant. Here the architects propose to place a branch of the Volgo-Balt Museum and make nine observation decks at different levels - according to the number of drop points, each - at the appropriate height.
The coastline is decorated with three experimental buildings, the volumes of which are partially brought into the space above the water. The project as a whole was influenced by the plastic of the whirlpool. The concept implies filling the territory with residential, social and various commercial functions.
Equilibrium

The idea of this concept is to raise a person on the shore to the same level as a ship on the waters of the Volgo-Balt. The historically formed pattern of pedestrian and transport routes was transferred to the stylobate part of the new building. Here, on the stylobate, it is proposed to create a public space, access to which is provided from different levels.
It is planned to build luxury residential buildings and cultural and leisure facilities along the coastline. Low-rise buildings are hidden in the depths, which gives the impression of home comfort and reflects the atmosphere of a small Russian town.
Metapolis

Metapolis is the city of tomorrow that combines new functions with traditional ones, building bridges between the past and the future. The Volgo-Balta Museum and the cultural and historical center with open public areas preserve the spirit of the place and are housed in the reconstructed building of the former administration for the construction of locks and unused mixers of the concrete plant. The museum's solution was inspired by the plasticity of a three-deck ship: open spaces are provided on three levels along the entire perimeter of the building. New buildings perform residential, business, tourist, shopping, entertainment and other functions. It was proposed to create a pedestrian zone along the coastline, part of the general promenade of Nikolskaya embankment, planned by the project "Russian Shores".
