The Palm Island complex is located in a new development zone on the northern outskirts of the city, in a residential area of the Hong Kong developer Palm Springs Holdings. Five buildings were erected on an isthmus between a small reservoir and a lake.
The lower part of these structures seems to be hidden under water, as they are “sunk” into platforms, on the surface of which “infinite” pools are located. As a result, kitchens, technical rooms, goods unloading areas and parking are located below ground (and water) level, so visitors can admire the continuous water surface from the very foot of the buildings to the shores of the lake and reservoir, respectively. Paths and stairs have been built along the isthmus, allowing easy access to each of the pavilions.
The pool bottoms and pavilion roofs are covered with the same abstract pattern, reminiscent of the play of light on the water surface, to make Palm Island look spectacular from the surrounding residential buildings. On the facades of its buildings, vertical aluminum rods are installed, on which the same pattern is applied; in the dark, it is emphasized by the backlight.
