The building will be composed of three rectangular blocks stacked on top of each other, together forming a "cascade". These translucent volumes will be located next to the main museum complex of the 19th and 20th centuries, connected to the new wing by an underground passage, and next to the neo-Gothic church of St. Dominic. A dynamic composition will connect the new building with its surroundings: the building will rise from the greenery of Battlefields Park towards the city and the main street of the Grand Alle
In the lower block measuring 50 mx 50 m, there will be halls for temporary exhibitions of contemporary art, on average (45 mx 35 m) - a permanent exhibition of works by contemporary artists, in the upper one (42.5 mx 25 m) - exhibits from the Eskimo design and art collections … Natural light will be used in all rooms.
The building is scheduled to open in 2013.
OMA's rivals in the final of the competition included Nieto Sobejano, Barkov Leibinger, Allied Works Architecture and David Chipperfield.
