Named after the main sponsors, the Vagelos couple, the Medical and Graduate Education Building includes a variety of classrooms, self-study spaces and a state-of-the-art clinical simulation center.
The 14-storey tower is almost completely glazed, only some areas are covered with glass fiber concrete. However, 2/3 of the building is protected from sunlight and heat by the fritted pattern on the panels. Only the southern part of the building received, although highly efficient, but transparent glass: there is a "educational cascade", a concentration of spaces for independent - group and individual - classes. It rises from the lobby with the cafe, seating area and "study bar" overlooking the landscaped courtyards to the very top of the building with the Sky Lounge. This "cascade" is a Douglas fir staircase that connects terraces, "amphitheaters", small and large learning spaces.
The rest of the building houses more traditional auditoriums for 30/60 people, which can be easily divided into parts and used for a wide variety of activities, a digital anatomy center, a multifunctional auditorium for 275 people, a space for social events for 190 people, a simulation center and a block. The building is surrounded by a garden with views of the Hudson River. Also, views of the river and the Palisades cliffs open from the upper floors of the building.
