A small lake that looks like an abandoned pond is one of the mythological plots of Bohr. The city of Bor is a satellite of Nizhny Novgorod on the left bank of the Volga, by channels, lowlands, separated from the big river, and comes to the coast only by industrial enterprises downstream.
Bor is connected with the center of Nizhny Novgorod by seasonal river transport, hovercraft. Buses to the regional center go much longer, going up from Bor to the combined road-rail bridge up the Volga. Since November, the two cities will also be connected by a cable car.
And in spring, during floods, large water sometimes reaches the boundaries of the settlement, all ponds and lakes with rivers flow into one common current. The high water, apparently, did not reach Lake Mukhinsky, and a village grew up around it, which eventually merged with other neighboring settlements into the large village of Bor, which later became a city.
The village lived around the lake, its houses looked at the water, and the modern housing that replaced them is oriented in the same way - the main facades overlook the reservoir. But the economic development of the territory was linked to roads, not landscape charms.
In recent years, the center has been actively tidied up on Bor, new buildings have been built, including a covered market on the site of the old one, which, however, faces the lake with its rear side and a parking lot. The wooden houses behind this market were resettled and demolished (although they are still visible on Google, Google has not yet taken this fact into account), a vacant lot was formed in place of the houses, separated from Lake Mukhinsky by a walking path.
Now the territory looks like this: a vacant lot with the remains of wooden houses, along the perimeter there are brick high-rise buildings, on the one side - a market, on the other - a lake. Above the lake there is a fence of a roadside cafe. According to the chief architect of the city, Alexei Korolev, the lake was drained and cleaned several years ago, there was a project for a microdistrict in this place, but at the initiative of the public it was decided to create a recreation area here.
As a rule, the typology of such places in Russia boils down to memorial squares (parks), green areas around religious buildings, less often - amusement parks with attractions. But the people of Borchan would like not only to formally master the territory, but to get a fresh image directly associated with their city. For example, here, as nowhere else, the topic of glass is relevant: the Bor glass plant is the largest in the country.
Therefore, they announced an open competition. Its results will be discussed as openly - with public organizations of Bor and the region.
The first stage of the competition ends on November 21. Until November 21, you can send sketch concepts to the email address [email protected] (for details, see the conditions of the competition). The project must necessarily include a parking lot for the existing market and a monument to soldiers-internationalists, as well as be equipped for people with disabilities. The projects that entered the second round can be finalized until December 12, 2011. For the winners of the second round, 3 prizes are expected: 100, 50 and 30 thousand rubles for the first, second and third places.
