Koutalaki Ski Village will become the new hub of the popular resort, organizing and integrating existing hotels and other infrastructure.
At the top of the hill, 4 hotel buildings with curvilinear outlines will be erected; they will circle around the new square, which can be used as a skating rink for concerts and any other events. There is also a special area for cafes and bars.
Each building smoothly rises from ground level to its "top" and descends again, so the buildings do not block the views of the surrounding landscape, but protect the area from the wind. In addition to resembling the silhouette of the surrounding hills, the new complex boasts a functional roof: it can be used as a ski slope, immediately standing on the track at the exit from the room. In the summer, this roof will turn into green picnic lawns. There are also panoramic restaurants upstairs.
Facades faced with light granite will not require cleaning from snow in winter: it will not damage them, but will only give them “naturalness”.
In addition to the main buildings, the complex includes 8 private villas with their own gardens.
The success of BIG in Finland came at the same time as the failure in his hometown of Copenhagen, where the city authorities considered its pioneering incineration plant, combined with a ski slope, too dangerous from an environmental point of view, and banned the project.
