The Make It Rigth Foundation (MIR) was founded by the film actor in 2007, when it became clear that the state was not coping with the restoration of residential areas. The situation was aggravated by the fact that the poorest areas of the city were hit hardest, where residents were not able to build new houses on their own funds. Of these, the fund chose the 9th Lower District. Since Brad Pitt is interested in modern architecture, leading architects from the United States and from abroad were attracted to cooperation, including MVRDV, Shigeru Bana, Tom Maine, etc. turn, preparedness for possible hurricanes and floods), as well as compliance with the maximum, "platinum" certificate of resource efficiency LEED.
In the late 2000s, projects of such houses were presented with great success, their implementation began, but in recent years less talk about the project, and more critical articles appeared. For example, some observers argued that original design houses were not popular with residents, despite their relatively affordable price (theoretically, owners can only pay as much as they can). In addition, it was noted that the money spent on the fees of the "stars" architects could also be spent on the construction of more modest dwellings. Nevertheless, of the 150 2-family houses announced in MIR's plans, about half have already been built.
The last completed project to date belongs to Frank Gehry. Despite his reputation as an implacable avant-garde, the architect has created a very traditional house, which should attract many potential tenants (after the "pilot" implementation, the project gets into the "catalog", from where it can be chosen by future owners).
The building on stilts (total area 165 m2) consists of a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom house painted pink and connected to it by a rear façade with a lilac 1-bedroom and 1-bathroom dwelling. The colors for the facades were chosen by the owners, and Gehry fully supports their choice.
Continuing the local tradition, the house is equipped with 6 verandas at different levels, as well as external stairs. High-strength and environmentally friendly fiber cement siding has replaced the usual wooden one. There is a roof terrace (approx. 50 m2) where you can take refuge in the event of a flood. It is protected from sun and rain by solar-powered canopies.
Eco-friendly materials and recyclable materials were used during construction, including recycled nylon carpet.
