This unusual object was implemented by Chino Dzukki within the framework of the complex reconstruction project of the Nuovo Cornaredo quarter, which the bureau headed by him has been dealing with since 2004. The main catalyst for the large-scale transformation of this area was the construction of a new underground tunnel Vedeggio - Cassatare, which will connect Lugano with the Milan-Zurich expressway. Around the tunnel, Chino Dzukki's team is designing many housing and social infrastructure, and landscaping the area between them. However, the completion of all the work is still very far away, and so that the new overpass does not look like a hole in the body of the city, surrounded by solid pits of smaller size, the architects came up with the idea of building a kind of temporary fence, at the same time functional and expressive, capable not only of hiding the construction site, but and in a way "outshine" it.
In order to solve the problem as efficiently as possible, Chino Dzukki immediately abandoned the idea of a solid fence, preferring a partially permeable screen. For the same reasons, the architect decided not to make the projected fence flat - the fence is a wide winding tape that does not visually cut off the entrance to the tunnel from the city, but makes it look like a portal.
This tape is "recruited" from wooden beams of rectangular cross-section, which are placed at some distance from each other. All the bars are the same length - 10 meters - but due to the fact that the architect constantly varies the angle at which they are installed, the screen acquires a pronounced wavy silhouette. And numerous bulges and concavities give the fence a different "density" - depending on the angle, it seems either absolutely impenetrable, or only partially hiding the construction site behind it. An integral part of the architectural image of the building, which the architect himself calls "ecological sculpture", is the shadow cast by the palisade invented by Chino Dzukki.
