The museum is located in the Kampinos National Park, a forest of birches and pines, where in 1939-1941 thousands of people were executed by the Nazis. Soon after the war, a cemetery was created there, where the bodies of the victims were reburied. The museum located next to it is dedicated to both the chronicle of terror and the history of the creation of the memorial.
The building is located in natural surroundings: the distance from its facades to the forest is less than 12 m. The trees were even allowed inside the building: pine trees were planted in the exhibition hall in round glazed courtyards-light wells. However, the exposition area has no windows, and panoramic glazing is arranged only from the side of the cemetery, where the main entrance is arranged: from there you can see the memorial - three crosses.
Rough concrete walls define the look of both the interior and exterior of the building, although they are partially clad in corten steel on the outside. The museum is located between the parking lot and the cemetery, so it also forms the path to the memorial, which runs between the side façade of the building and a high concrete retaining wall that reinforces the hillside.
