The project was named Urban Mountain: the architects propose to build a volume similar to a mountain not only with its outstanding height, but also with a large amount of greenery on the facades, “slopes”. In fact, they want to implant a piece of nature in the very center of the metropolis, making the renovated building a visual aid to the use of "green" technologies. The guarantee of the feasibility of this project is Transsolar Energietechnik - German "climate engineers" who are responsible for creating optimal conditions for humans in the building using the minimum possible means and developing various resource-efficient technologies.
The project for the reconstruction of the office complex provides for an increase in its area by more than one and a half times: from 50 to 79 thousand m2. It will become not only the tallest building in Oslo, but also the first naturally ventilated skyscraper in the Norwegian capital. It is important that almost all the building materials from which the existing building is constructed will be recycled and reused (Cradle to Cradle). In particular, in the new project, the current cladding of facades is almost completely used, supplementing it with the so-called "green lungs" - air intakes greened with local plants that will purify and humidify the air entering the ventilation system.
Also in the building it is planned to use the so-called. solar chimneys that use solar energy to create and enhance the natural ventilation of a building. At the base of the skyscraper, a glacier is designed for 1000 m3 of ice, and on its roof there is a greenhouse. And if the "green crown" of the skyscraper is visible from afar and makes it even more noticeable in the panoramas of Oslo, then the giant "freezer" that provides the building with cold air will become a convenient reference point for those who move around the Norwegian capital by metro: from the subway station, the interior space the ice storage will be separated by a transparent wall.
And in order to better integrate the building into the urban fabric, its first floor will be completely dedicated to public functions. In particular, it is planned to place an eco-market and several cafes here.
It was reported this week that the Urban Mountain project, which schmidt hammer lassen and Transsolar Energietechnik have developed together with a consortium of architects, has made it to the finals of the Nordic Built Challenge, which rewards Scandinavia's most sustainable projects, as Norway's representative. It will be announced on October 17 whether he will be able to bypass competitors from Finland, Sweden, Iceland and Denmark in the fight for the "gold".
