Konstantin Grchik is one of the most famous designers of our time.
His work is serious and functional, sometimes smiling, sometimes embarrassing. Some of Grczyk's creations, such as Chair_One (2004), are recognized as design classics.
Vitra Design Museum presents the largest solo exhibition of Grcic's works to date, called Konstantin Grcic - Panorama. It will run until September 14 in an iconic building designed by Frank Gehry for the Vitra Design Museum in Vejle am Rhein, before embarking on a world tour.
Especially for the exhibition, Konstantin Grchik created several large-scale installations representing his personal vision of life in the future: home interior, design studio and urban environment. On these sites, fictional scenarios are embodied, with the help of which the designer tells visitors about his inspiration, tasks and questions; they also help to place Grczyk's work more deeply in a social context. Among these presentations, a 30 m long panorama, depicting the architectural landscape of the future, stands out.
For the Milan Furniture Salon 2014, Konstantin Grchik also made an installation in the Milan showroom FLOS, which gives an idea of the themes and atmosphere of his exhibition. It uses two objects created by Konstantin Grchik in collaboration with FLOS: Mayday (1999) and OK (2013) lamps
Konstantin Grchik's collaboration with FLOS began at the beginning of his career, and the Mayday luminaire helped Grchik's international breakthrough in the late 90s. The OK fixture is a futuristic interpretation of the legendary creation of Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzu Parentesi (1971), which brings design classics into the 21st century. Both Mayday and OK luminaires are also part of the original exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum and part of a large companion catalog "Konstantin Grcic - Panorama".
