The first building, named Haba I and completed in 2006, appeared opposite the former headquarters of the company. The building with a total area of more than 5000 m2 does not seem massive due to its "three-bladed" plan. The main place inside is occupied by a spacious and bright lobby, giving access to exhibition and conference rooms, office tiers and a dining room for employees and visitors.
The history of the company, founded in 1938 as a manufacturer of wooden toys, is reminiscent of the use of wood in interiors and facades. At the same time, splashes of bright colors, metal and transparent parts serve as a reference to modernity.
By 2010, it became clear that the available space of the company was not enough: today, in addition to toys, it produces children's clothing, furniture, strollers, equipment for schools and kindergartens. Therefore, Haba management again turned to h4a architects - now with a request to design a second building, with offices, seminar and meeting rooms.
As a result, in 2012, next to Haba I, the Haba II building appeared, where three tiers offset from each other "inform" the observer about the programmed content of the building. The lower block contains public areas, and the upper two contain offices, where, as in Haba I, the layout is very flexible. This allows them to be tailored for individual, team or "combined" work, depending on the current needs.
Haba II is also highly resource efficient, earning it the 2014 DGNB gold certification. So, for heating, biofuel is used here - wood waste from its own production.
