The founder of the bureau, Ma Yangsun, thinks as big and bold as always: he is not just developing a project for a residential complex for the respectable Beverly Hills, but offers no less than a new philosophy of residential construction for the entire west coast of the United States. He is confident that in densely populated cities, where modernist and postmodern buildings prevail, function and typology always prevail, disrupting the relationship of a person with the environment. And this dialogue can be harmonized only by placing people in more natural "natural" conditions.
The ambitious project is planned to be implemented on one of the main streets of Greater Los Angeles - Wilshire Boulevard, and work will begin in October this year. The theme, which is popular in these places, is taken as a basis of independent "cells" collected in a single complex. The architects call their project a "hillside village" and claim to be inspired by the mountainous terrain surrounding Los Angeles.
The complex is relatively small, its total area is 4459 m2, and its height is slightly more than 18 m. There are only 18 residential "cells" here, different in typology: 2 small studios, 8 ordinary apartments of different sizes, 5 villas and 3 townhouses. All these independent volumes in white have gable ends and form a fractional silhouette that is comfortable for perception.
Facades facing a busy street are designed to protect apartment owners from the noise and tense rhythm of the city and at the same time broadcast outside the fashionable ideas of dissolving in nature. The massive base, forming the view terraces, will be greened: planted with unpretentious succulents and climbing plants and will turn into a living wall with small openings of windows. At the same time, the first floor, which will be occupied by small shops, will receive continuous glazing, so that the entire volume will literally hang in the air.
If from the outside, the residential part of the building is practically impenetrable to the eye, then the fractional facades overlooking the courtyard are also almost completely transparent, thus uniting the owners of the apartments into a kind of community. An artificial reservoir in the very center of the courtyard located on the second level (the same is located under it, in the center of the hall) and numerous trees, terraces, balconies at different levels also contribute to an improvement in the quality of the environment.
