Shinkoji Buddhist Temple was built in 2014 in the old part of the Japanese city of Nagoya. His project belongs to the bureau Mamiya Shinichi Design Studio. As conceived by the architects, the building should become a guide for local residents between the city and heaven.
The complex of the temple corresponds to the canons of Buddhism, while the neo-modern forms of its architecture are very far from tradition.
The total area of the three-storey building is 493 m2… Two pylons at the entrance symbolize a gate - an important element for a Buddhist temple. The beams supported by them divide the complex into eastern and western parts.
One of the key attributes of the teaching, honzon (a scroll with an image or a statue of Buddha - approx. Archi.ru), is located in the western part of the building on the first floor. The space of the hall is divided vertically with three light sources coming from top to bottom. They embody the three "jewels" of the teaching, the three core ideals of Buddhism: Butsu (Buddha), Ho (Dharma) and So (Sangha). It was decided to give the second floor as a multifunctional hall for the visitors of the temple. The building is crowned with a pitched roof.
