- For the Brick Award 2018, Wienerberger selects outstanding brick projects around the world.
- Architects, architecture critics and journalists are invited to present projects.

The Brick Award has been held by Wienerberger since 2004. The awards are presented for outstanding projects of modern and innovative brick architecture. In 2018, the company will present this award internationally for the eighth time. Applications from architects, architecture critics and journalists can be made online at www.brickaward.com. In 2016, a record number of participants were recorded. More than 600 projects were received from 55 countries of the world.
The Brick Award has a prize pool of € 7,000 for the Grand Prix and € 5,000 for each of the category winners.
The award includes five categories:
- Feel at home: single-family homes, small housing projects of high architectural quality that provide comfortable, healthy and sustainable living conditions
- Living together: multi-family residential buildings, innovative residential solutions taking into account the trends and challenges of urbanization such as lack of space, social challenges and new concepts of life
- Working together: comfortable, aesthetic and functional offices, commercial and industrial buildings
- Sharing public spaces: comfortable, aesthetic and functional public buildings for education, culture and health needs, public spaces and infrastructure projects
- Building outside the box: innovative concepts and uses of bricks, new building technologies, custom bricks or ornaments
Ceramic products should play a significant role in the submitted project, ranging from ceramic blocks, facade bricks, clinker pavers or tiles. The use of Wienerberger products is not a prerequisite for participation. Particular attention will be paid to how the project combines functionality, sustainability and energy efficiency. An additional criterion is that the project is completed in 2014 or later.
Selection criteria:
- A significant part of the project should consist of ceramic building materials (ceramic blocks, facade bricks, clinker paving stones, ceramic tiles, etc.)
- One of the nomination must be applicable to the project
- The project must be completed in 2014 or later
- The project can include new buildings, renovated and converted buildings
- The project can include both new and used bricks
- Particular attention will be paid to the functionality, sustainability and energy efficiency of the project
- The use of Wienerberger products is optional.
Following the deadline for submissions on April 20, 2017, a panel of journalists and critics will select 50 projects to be nominated for the 2018 Wienerberger Brick Award and also published in the Brick'18 book. Further, an international jury of architects will select 5 winners in individual categories, as well as the winner of the Grand Prix.
The official Brick Award ceremony will take place in Vienna in spring 2018. The Brick'18 book with all 50 projects will be published at the same time.
