Contestants will have to design a complex of buildings that will rewrite the architectural appearance of Detroit, one of the most famous and controversial cities in the United States. The bright buildings should become a symbol of the new take-off of the city, abandoned for many years.

The works of all finalists will be published in architectural publications and on the web portals of the competition partners

This is a story that few people willingly tell. A story held by the walls of glittering skyscrapers. Deep scars on Detroit's body indicate that the once-thriving industrial center has gone through a stage of economic and demographic decline: a huge line of boarded-up houses, deserted streets and abandoned buildings.

It is difficult to say how the "arsenal of democracy" - as Detroit was called in the early forties - became to the largest ghost town of our time. However, history is full of contrasts; time often changes its course, and where emptiness arises, opportunities often arise.

In recent years powerful winds of innovation hit the city, removing the haze of the past and dissolving the haze of decline that has held back the city's development for decades. Thus, many of these gaps, formed from the wounds that have arisen from depopulation and the economic crisis, turned into new epicenters of urban revival: precious canvases on which to paint new masterpieces of modern architecture.

The subject of the competition Detroit Waterfront District is one of the most exciting paintings - the renovation of an empty coastal zone in the city center. The purpose of the competition, conducted by the Manni Group in collaboration with Sterling Group, is to develop the design of Detroit's recreational space.

Here, on the grounds of the former Joe Louis Arena, next to the place where, according to tradition, the founders of Detroit landed, designers will be able to compete in the design of a complex of buildings that will rewrite the architectural appearance of the city. Masterpieces created by innovative architects to symbolize renaissance one of the most iconic and controversial cities in the history of the United States of America.

Architectural competition Manni Group Design Award 2020 dedicated to the topic revitalizing cities using the off-site construction method (off-site construction).

Offsite construction (design, fabrication and assembly in a different location from the actual installation) promotes sustainable industrialization and does not impede architectural activities.

The competition assignment is the development of design projects to create a recreational space for a city that has experienced luxury and bankruptcy - Detroit. The works of the contestants will symbolize the revival of one of the most iconic and controversial cities in the history of the United States of America.
