Yesterday on the air of the British channel Channel 4 the results of the next season of the RIBA House of the Year award were summed up. Recall that this year's long list consisted of 20 buildings. The members of the jury visited each of the houses personally: the British could also watch their visits thanks to TV broadcasts.
Seven different houses from different parts of the country reached the final. The best of them and, accordingly, the winner of the award was recognized the Caring Wood house-castle in Kent. Architects James MacDonald Wright and Niall Maxwell impressed the jury by creating a cozy atmosphere despite the majestic scale of the project. There is no extra space in the house with an area of more than 1400 m², every meter is carefully thought out, every detail is in its place. As for the external appearance of the building, it does not seem massive, since it consists of four towers, united by a common roof. Experts also appreciated the choice of materials and color palette, which can be traced back to local building traditions. The house was created for the life of three generations of one family at once, and there will be a place for both solitary thoughts and evenings with relatives.
