Another Apple store by Norman Foster has opened on the banks of the Chicago River in the center of the eponymous metropolis. The project is based on the image of a staircase descending to the water, and its external and internal parts are visually almost not delimited, since the walls of the pavilion are made of four-layer laminated glass of increased transparency (with an ultra-low iron content). Thanks to the steps, the new building connects the city, in particular the Pioneer Court square with the river, and creates an important public space (less than half of the site is occupied by a shop).

Transparent walls from 4.3 to 10 m high emphasize the most visible part of the building - the roof (34 mx 30 m) with a large overhang (3-5 m), which protects the facades from the sun. It is made of carbon polymer, which made it very thin: the maximum thickness is about one meter. It is supported by polished stainless steel supports. The total area of the store is 1858 m2.
