Since 2004, Wienerberger has been holding the international Brick Award for architecture. The awards are presented for outstanding contemporary and innovative architecture projects made from ceramic building materials. In 2020, the company will host the award for the ninth time.
Participants can register their project on brickaward.com from January 7 to April 9, 2019.
Projects will be accepted in five nominations: 1. Feel at home: single-family homes, small housing projects of high architectural quality that provide comfortable, healthy and sustainable living conditions.
2. Living together: multi-family residential buildings, innovative residential solutions taking into account the trends and challenges of urbanization, such as lack of space, social challenges and new concepts of life.
3. Working together: comfortable, aesthetic and functional offices, commercial and industrial buildings.
4. Being in the community: comfortable, aesthetic and functional public buildings for education, culture and health needs, public spaces and infrastructure projects.
5. Build outside the box: innovative concepts and uses of bricks and new building technologies.
Selection criteria to be met by the project:
- Most of the project should consist of ceramic building materials (ceramic blocks, facade bricks, clinker paving stones, ceramic tiles, etc.).
- The project must be completed no earlier than 2016.
- The project can consist of both new buildings and renovated ones.
- Particular attention will be paid to the functionality, environmental friendliness and energy efficiency of the project.
- The use of Wienerberger materials is not a prerequisite for participation.
Journalists and architectural critics will select the 50 best projects to be nominated
for the Wienerberger Brick Award 2020.
An international jury will select 5 category winners and a Grand Prix winner. The awards ceremony will take place in Vienna in May 2020.
Traditionally, the Brick Award has a prize pool of 5,000 euros for the winners in five nominations and 7,000 euros for the Grand Prix.
