In the middle of the lobby, a lush garden with trees and tropical plants is the first thing that travelers see when they land at the new terminal of Tocumen Panama Airport. The new terminal, designed by architects Foster + Partners, resembles the local landscape and gives airport visitors a "sense of place", in contrast to the facelessness often inherent in large aviation hubs.
Two symmetrical wings diverge west and east of the garden and central waiting area. All parts of the building are integrated under the Riverclack® aerodynamic roof in light bronze shade. The warm range of finishing materials inside the building and daylight that penetrates inside through the skylights is harmoniously combined with the metal palette of the roof, and the glazed facades offer a view of the airfield and the surrounding landscapes. To top it off, the lowered roll on the eaves protects the transparent facades from the hot and blinding rays of the tropical sun entering the building.
50.000 sq.m. the roofs of the new terminal are covered with Riverclack® 550 painted aluminum PVDF roofing sheets
