Yamasen Japanese Restaurant is located in a residential area - a suburb of Kampala; in addition to the restaurant and cafe itself, there is also a small shop in the building. The idea of the establishment is to draw the attention of visitors to high-quality local products. The architecture continues this line: Terrain selected local materials for the construction, using Ugandan workers who were able to learn new skills in the process. In addition, special efforts have been made to preserve the five trees growing on the site.
The first floor and the underground part with the garage are made of concrete, wood was used above, the volumetric roof was covered with thatch. Eucalyptus is usually only used for rafters and scaffolding, as this wood often dries out, bends and cracks. However, Terrain's architects managed to avoid these problems by improving the drying and sawing process, and then using heavy construction equipment.
The relief of the site is gentle, it is almost imperceptible to the eye, however, the level difference was used to construct an underground level at the top point (at the bottom of the building there are only two above-ground tiers).
