Innovation for dormakaba is not only new technologies and developments in the field of mechanical and electronic security systems. Innovative technologies also need innovative designs. Thus, the XEA product line combines the best of both worlds.

What is XEA?

The XEA (X elements of aesthetic) design language comes from a universal unified position that combines our ten-point requirements for compatibility, high quality, innovation, excellence and aesthetics. All of these requirements are aimed at creating a single standard look that combines basic designs, colors and surface finishes: XEA brings together dormakaba products and the business world. This is how a universal design appears, presented in a language that is understandable to everyone, both in content and in external forms.

The well-established expressions “Swiss quality” and “Made in Germany” stand for innovative strength, creativity, systems thinking and indispensable quality. They also talk about innovative design: the merger of Dorma and Kaba brought together not only the best technology, but also the aesthetic principles of the two companies. The result is the XEA product design: its independent concept is integrated into the overall architectural form and is characterized by its minimalist and robust product composition. The used Kaba frames, which mask readers and access devices, are combined with Dorma elements, which consist of several layers of different materials. And a variety of surface finishes add distinctive touches to the design of new products.

10 elements of the concept

  • Brand recognition. Each XEA product is easily recognizable as a dormakaba product by features such as the company's logo on the front of the product.
  • Intuitive symbols. All symbols used are only the most significant elements. They are easy to read, understandable and have a high recognition rate.
  • Standard surface finishes. XEA combines four standard base colors that are easy to match with all products. The XEA color numbering system allows you to combine a wide variety of components anywhere in the world.
  • Monolithic composition. The XEA design language is based on monolithic one-piece structures that are formed by flat, two-dimensional surfaces. Rounds and sharp corners

    contrastingly contrasted.

  • Intuitive user interface. All user interfaces have a minimalistic typical design, have a high recognition rate and are used intuitively.
  • Contrasting surface finishes. The contrast between light and dark, matt and glossy in surface finishes makes it easy to recognize the individual functional elements of our products.
  • Framing. Many dormakaba products are built into a body frame, which also provides additional protection against external influences.
  • Multilayer compositions. Some XEA products stand out for their visible sandwich construction. Decorative overlays, for example, stand out for their

solidity due to the visible edges.

  • LED indication. XEA products have light bars that indicate

access, direct or indicate the status of the door. Thanks to the standard shape and

functions, the corporate identity is easily recognizable in all products.

  • Individual design. Specially selected and matched materials and colors, present a wide range of solutions that organically fit into the environment, or vice versa - add an individual style.

XEA history

Basic shapes, colors and surface finishes are combined in a single appearance.

When Bernhard Heitz, in charge of product design for dormakaba, was given the assignment

to develop a design for a new overall concept, one thing was clear: the aesthetics of the new design

will have to open up a new dimension of the universal appearance of the product for people and

companies.

“The concept of new design is a fusion of different aesthetic styles of the Bauhaus philosophy with its interweaving of craft and fine arts or, if you prefer, the connection between architecture and design. The result is a clear and understandable language of the product and a refined originality that harmoniously fits into the object, forming a single whole with it. Bernhard Heitz is responsible for strategic product design for dormakaba.
