In March of this year, the project of the new terminal of the Kemerovo International Airport, developed by Spectrum Group of Companies together with the ASADOV architectural bureau, received a positive conclusion from the state examination. In April, it is planned to sum up the results of the tender for the selection of the general contractor for the project. After that, the official start of the start of construction work will be given.

The operating Kemerovo airport is small: there are two terminals - domestic and international. Both were built in 1960-1970, since the opening of the air harbor in the city. The need to modernize the airfield is long overdue. During the peak season, it can hardly cope with the loads and does not provide the necessary comfort to passengers. At the same time, the city is actively developing and is increasingly becoming the center of all-Russian and world events. For example, in 2022 Kemerovo is preparing to host the Men's Volleyball World Cup.

Since 2016, the airport has been under the management of the largest airport holding Novaport, which initially initiated the development of a project for the reconstruction of existing buildings, airfield and runway. And then, in 2019, I thought about building a third passenger terminal for domestic flights - for projection, Novaport turned directly to Spectrum and the ASADOV bureau, with which it has been cooperating for a long time and successfully. Example -

airport in Perm, completed in 2017.

The Spectrum company, in the role of general designer, has developed a functional diagram of the building: clear, clear and quite economical, - says Andrey Asadov. On its basis, within a limited budget, it was necessary to create a laconic and expressive architectural image. In a short time, joint efforts were made to develop an architectural project for the terminal, as well as a design project for the interiors of public areas.

The new building is planned to be built on the territory of the existing airport, located 5 km from the south-eastern border of the city and 11 km from its center. The existing terminals are adjacent to each other. From the east - the international sector, in the center - domestic flights. The new volume will occupy a vacant site on the west side. Together, all three buildings will form a simple linear composition along the edge of the airfield. Glass passages will appear between the buildings.

In terms of plan, the new terminal has a simple rectangular shape, which will be complemented by two telescopic ladders. The dimensions of the plan in the axes are 84x51 m. The height of the volume is just over 21 m: three ground floors and one underground.

The plot is based on space. Like

Saratov airport, designed and built by the ASADOV bureau, which bears the name of Yuri Gagarin, the Kemerovo air gate is "dedicated" to Alexei Leonov, who was born in the village of Listvyanka, Kemerovo region. Leonov is the first cosmonaut to enter open space. But if in Saratov the space theme is slightly veiled (in addition, we recall that the airport received the name of Gagarin when the building was being built), then here it is presented in its purest form: open space, the immense space of the universe, the boundless and shimmering sky around. And this is despite the modest size of the building - the total area is just over 10,000 square meters, half that in Saratov.

“The theme of space has become central to us again. In Saratov, this is a dream of space, romantic, snow-white, in the spirit of the 1960s.

Another version appeared in Kemerovo - endless space, starry sky."

Open space is hidden inside the building like a sweet filling. But you can taste it slightly outside. The terminal facades along the entire contour are given over to stained glass windows and are almost literally "filled" with starlight, transforming the transparent glass into a kind of giant multicolored screen.

The stained-glass perimeter of the main volume is only in some areas covered with decorative horizontal metal lamellas, mainly in those places where auxiliary and technical rooms are located. In particular, they encircle the rounded corner from the side of the main facade and then flow to the end part and the branch of the glass passageway.

The glass volume is covered with a silvery roof, whose surface, smoothly curving, in front of the main facade collapses to the ground, almost like the corner of a tablecloth from a table or, more precisely, like a wing of some fantastic aircraft, dividing into two sharp triangles, the space between which forms a capital letter the name of the cosmonaut - L. This is how a sculpture-sign appears, the building merges with its name, becomes its organic part. And the main entrance façade, facing the small square and the driveway, gets a striking, recognizable accent. The "wing" of the metal roof also creates a visor in front of the entrance, it also extends with spectacular high-tech cornices on the sides, giving the volume completeness.

A similar reception can be seen at the Assad airport in Perm, whose gigantic golden wings remind of angels and flights in general. In the building of the Saratov airport, you can also see the wingspan, it is given more subtly, vibrates with the rays of the sun, almost like a mirage. But the theme of glass, transparent and reflective, shining is more active there. The glass and the wing seem to become the author's feature of the new airports of the ASADOV bureau. Unsurprisingly, they fit perfectly within the meaning.

The plane of the roof and canopy is planned to be faced with metal panels of a silvery shade, typical for spacecraft. The whole design looks slim and graceful. Leaning on a glass base, it visually hangs in the air. It seems that only the sharp corners of the silvery wing serve as a support for it. According to Andrey Asadov, finding a constructive solution for such an artistic technique turned out to be not at all easy, especially since the building will be built in a zone of increased seismicity, where safety requirements are especially high.

Departure and arrival areas are separated by levels. The lounge for departures with related services occupies almost the entire second floor. On the first one there are arrivals, baggage claim, check-in counters. Also, the new terminal will compactly accommodate special service and enhanced comfort halls for business class passengers.

The entire ceiling - common above the departure and arrival areas - is darkened. Spotlights form many constellations, clusters and even the Milky Way against this background.

“We tried to convey the feeling of infinity, transform space through color and light,” explains Andrei Asadov. “This is a strong emotional trick: a person enters an airport and enters open space.” That, we note, precisely reveals the main theme of the personal dedication to Leonov - that very exit from the ship, and the many stars that the astronaut sees, bright without an atmospheric barrier.

Despite the effect of the starry sky overhead, there will be sufficient light in the terminal halls. An additional source of natural light will be roof skylights. There are six of them above the central hall of the first floor - large, transverse, diamond-shaped, with a translucent skeleton of steel substructures. Another lantern along its entire length cuts through the "starry sky" above the departure waiting area.

The interior is fantastic. It is difficult to associate it with an airport; rather, it looks like a planetarium or a museum. This association will be strengthened by the model of the Voskhod-2 spacecraft, the very ship from which Alexei Leonov made the first spacewalk in the history of mankind. The life-size model is supposed to be hung in the center of the main hall.

In Saratov, a space museum with a huge media feed was created in the air terminal building. In the Kemerovo terminal, the entire space is designed in such a way that it resembles a museum. Instead of a media tape and exhibits, there is a large LED screen, broadcasting space landscapes, and a light panel with a reproduction of a painting by Alexei Leonov. Not everyone knows, but the Soviet cosmonaut was also an artist. His works are kept, among other things, in the Tretyakov Gallery. Leonov's painting "Above the Black Sea", depicting an astronaut in outer space, will occupy the entire wall above the check-in counters. The LED screen is planned to be placed in the main two-story hall, on the side of the second mezzanine floor.

As Andrei Asadov said, the Kemerovo airport project developed rapidly. And it is planned to implement it at the same accelerated pace: in the spring of next year, the management of the airport promises to open the terminal for passengers. By the 300th anniversary of Kuzbass, the city will receive not only a modern transport hub, but also a new city symbol, a reminder of the country's space achievements and the kind of people the Kemerovo land gives birth to.
