October 16, 2020 in the Central House of Architects in Moscow the ceremony of awarding the winners of the Cersanit Creative Tile 2020 competition took place. The three best student projects for the ceramic tile collection created for Cersanit and selected by a jury were announced. Another project won an open vote by the guests of the event.

Cersanit Creative Tile is a competition for students of creative universities, which is held under the patronage of the Cersanit brand. Ceramic tile projects were presented by dozens of future designers seeking to contribute to the development of the ceramic industry. This year, Cersanit Creative Tile was attended by works from the Moscow Architectural Institute, MGHPA them. S. G. Stroganov and the Russian Chemical Technical University named after D. I. Mendeleev.

Design is a step into the future

Representatives of the Union of Designers and the Union of Architects of Russia, who presented diplomas to the winners and participants with the best works, were also inspired by the idea that rallied the Cersanit team, students and teachers. For students who are just getting ready to become professionals, this turned out to be both a pleasant surprise and an honor - both unions award no more than 25 people a year with their diplomas, and among them, as a rule, are distinguished designers and architects.

According to the vice-president of the Union of Designers of Russia Yuri Menchitsaif we do not support young designers, we risk becoming countries that do not produce anything.

“Design is a step into the future. This is a project, and a project is something that does not yet exist. Students are also a step into the future. Today we put a creative impulse into them, managed to interest them, and tomorrow they began to be creative, as a result, it resulted in ceramic tiles, which have a sales market larger than the automobile market. Our goal is to make it clear to future specialists that it is possible to become the best here, developing domestic design and taking our country to a new level,”Yuri Vladimirovich shared his impressions.

Property of the North, Savage and Sackcloth

To determine the winners of the competition, the capital's leading figures of design and architecture, as well as heads of Cersanit profile divisions, were involved in the project. The jury of Cersanit Creative Tile 2020 included: Chief Designer of Cersanit in Russia Miroslav Kozheniewski, President of the Union of Architects of Russia Nikolay Shumakov, Vice President of the Union of Designers of Russia Yuri Menchits, rectors and vice-rectors of the Moscow Architectural Institute, MGHPA named after S. G. Stroganov and the Russian Chemical Technical University named after D. I. Mendeleev.

The winner of the Cersanit Creative Tile is Elsakova Olga, MGHPA them. SG Stroganova, with the project "Property of the North". When creating the collection, the source of inspiration was the folk craft of the northern peoples of Russia - the Mezen painting, which is distinguished by a unique recognizable style with a deeply symbolic ornament. This collection is an attempt at a modern interpretation of the motives of the Mezen painting. The collection includes 10 modules: 8 decorative elements 300 × 300 and 2 types of background tiles 300 × 600. The tile can be used as wall or floor covering in various premises.

The second place in the competition took Babaev Anton from Moscow Architectural Institute with the Savage project. The project is a bright rectangular tile with a handmade effect in the size of 75x300, which can be laid in three ways: horizontally, vertically and with a herringbone. The harmonious collection was inspired by the Russian avant-garde, where beauty is born at the intersection of laconicism and functionality.

The material "burlap" was taken as a basis, which creates coziness in the developed space and corresponds to the trend towards environmental friendliness.
